Holiday cooking season is when the wall behind your stove earns its keep. Grease, splatter, steam, and wiping every night. That is why many homeowners decide a granite backsplash slab is worth considering: one continuous surface, with no grout lines to scrub. Here is how I think about each zone of the wall.
Behind the Range
This is the hardest-working area of the kitchen. Granite handles heat well and wipes clean, and a slab means there are no grout lines for grease to settle into. We plan cutouts and clearances with you, so the stone fits around your cooktop and hood properly.
Behind the Sink
Moisture is the issue here. Sealed granite handles splashes well. If you have a window above the sink, tell us early, because the slab can be cut to fit around it, including a ledge if you want one.
Along the Counter
You can choose a standard height or run the slab higher. Many homeowners cut the backsplash from the same slab as the countertop for a cohesive look, and I recommend deciding the height before fabrication starts.
Outlets and Switches
We cut the slab to fit around outlets and switches, so tell us where they are. Any electrical changes are handled by a licensed electrician, not by us.
What to Know About Granite Itself
Granite is natural and porous, so it benefits from sealing. Each slab is unique, so see it in person. You can browse options on our granite countertops page.
What We Do
We fabricate and install the backsplash slab, and we focus only on the stone. You can read about the process on our backsplash page and our kitchen countertop remodel page. We are not a general contractor, so cabinets, plumbing, and electrical work are handled by other professionals. Homeowners in Camarillo and Moorpark come to us for this, and the service area page lists everywhere we serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use granite for both the counter and the backsplash?
Yes. Many homeowners cut both from the same slab for a seamless look.
Do granite backsplash slabs need sealing?
Yes, periodically. We explain the right routine at installation.
Do you install tile backsplashes?
We sell tile, but we do not install it. We install stone slab backsplashes.
