Quartz Backsplash Slabs: 5 Mistakes to Avoid Before You Order

quartz backsplash slabs

Hosting season puts your kitchen on display, and a clean, seamless wall behind the counter makes a real difference. Quartz backsplash slabs can give you that, with a surface that wipes clean and needs no sealing. But I see the same mistakes over and over, so here are five to avoid.

Mistake 1: Choosing From a Small Sample

A small sample cannot show you how the color and pattern look across a full wall. Look at the full slab, and ask how the finished piece will look in your kitchen light.

Mistake 2: Forgetting About Heat Near the Cooktop

Quartz is less heat tolerant than natural stone. If the backsplash sits directly behind a range, ask us about it before you decide. Tell us what cooktop you have, and we can talk through whether quartz is the right fit for that wall or whether another material suits it better.

Mistake 3: Waiting to Plan Outlets and Cutouts

We cut the slab to fit around outlets, switches, and windows. Tell us where they are before fabrication, because it is much easier to plan than to fix. Electrical changes are handled by a licensed electrician.

Mistake 4: Deciding the Height Last

A standard strip and a taller backsplash look very different. Decide how high you want it early, because it changes how much stone you need.

Mistake 5: Treating It as an Afterthought

The backsplash and countertop should look like they belong together. Choosing them as a pair helps the colors and pattern coordinate. Our quartz countertops page shows the colors we carry.

What We Do, and What We Do Not

We fabricate and install quartz backsplash slabs. That is the stone portion of a kitchen project, and you can read about it on our backsplash page. We are not a general contractor, so we do not handle cabinets, plumbing, or electrical work. We also sell floor and wall tile, but we do not install it. We work with homeowners in Simi Valley and Santa Rosa Valley, and the service area page lists the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do quartz backsplash slabs need sealing?

No. Quartz is non-porous and does not need sealing.

Can I match my quartz countertop?

Yes, and we can help the countertop and backsplash coordinate.

Can I install a quartz backsplash behind a range?

Often yes, but ask us first, since quartz is less heat tolerant.
