Porcelain is the newest material many homeowners ask about, and it comes with a lot of assumptions. Some are outdated and some have a bit of truth. Here is what I tell people about a porcelain kitchen countertop, myth by myth.
Myth 1: “Porcelain looks fake.”
This was true years ago. Today’s porcelain slabs come in convincing marble, stone, and concrete looks, and the best ones are very hard to tell from the real thing at a glance. The veining is printed and then carried through, so seeing the slab in person helps you judge whether you like the look. We have porcelain slabs to compare at our showroom.
Myth 2: “Porcelain is fragile.”
Porcelain is extremely hard. It resists scratches, heat, and stains very well. The one real caution is the edge. A hard, direct hit on an exposed edge can chip it, so edge detailing and careful handling matter. That is part of why fabrication is more specialized, and why we plan the edge with you early.
Myth 3: “It is only for outdoor kitchens.”
Porcelain is excellent outdoors because it does not fade in sunlight, and it is popular for outdoor kitchens in Southern California. Even in fall, when evenings are mild, many homeowners in Newbury Park and Westlake Village want their indoor and outdoor surfaces to match. But it works beautifully indoors too, especially for busy kitchens.
Myth 4: “It needs special care.”
It is the opposite. Porcelain does not need sealing, and everyday cleaning is mild soap and water. If you want a kitchen that takes very little upkeep, that is one of porcelain’s biggest strengths. Our stone care page has simple guidance for all of our materials.
What Porcelain Does Best
- Resists heat, scratches, and stains
- Never needs sealing
- Holds up to sunlight, so indoor and outdoor surfaces can match
- Comes in large slabs, which can mean fewer seams

Where We Fit in Your Remodel
We fabricate and install porcelain slabs for the countertop portion of your kitchen. Our kitchen countertop remodel process covers each step. We are not a general contractor, so we do not handle cabinets, plumbing, or electrical work. We also sell floor and wall tile, but we do not install it. Homeowners in Oak Park, Camarillo, Moorpark, and across the Conejo Valley work with us for the stone itself. For the full list of areas, see our service area page.
